Review

Traditional Irish Music & $3 Guinness (20oz) ALL NIGHT!
7:30 pm
Concert:Kevin McElroy & TomWilsbach

Kevin and Tom are both icons in the Maine traditional Irish world. They have both been here and performing this music since the 70's, or what we call, pre-Riverdance, when nobody was listening to this stuff. They have refined their arts over the years and have become staples of the local session scene, diligent teachers and featured performers in a variety of venues. Although they have been playing together for a coon's age, I believe this may be the first official duo gig they have done together. Expect some lovely and unusual tunes masterfully played on some  lovely and unusual instruments (flat pipes in B and viola!). Come on down and witness the "pure drop."

9:00 pm
Seisún (session)

Seisún (session) is a tradition throughout Ireland, in the town Pubs, where musicians, who are often patrons, gather in a large circle and acoustically perform the traditional music of Ireland. Seisún takes place right here at Blue each and every Wednesday evening around 9:00 P.M. If you have not experienced it, come down to the Blue, have a Guinness and treat yourself!

7:00 pm
Chuck Muldoon

Chuck has been playing the guitar for 22 years, thanks to being initially inspired by the rootsy picking of John Fogerty. Prior to that, an ear had always been tuned to Beatles, Broadway tunes, film scores, classical and jazz. For the past 15 years, Chuck has focused on the "American Primitive," fingerstyle traditions, performing mainly original compositions. Influences are John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Roy Book Binder, Steve James, Paul Geremia, Dave Van Ronk and John Jackson, amongst others.

9:00 pm
Samuel James featuring Miss Nina Marie - Delta & Piedmont Blues

Delta Blues legends Tommy Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Petey Wheatstraw were all said to have sold their souls to the devil in exchange for their exceptional musical abilities. Now, we're not saying that Samuel James sold his soul to the Devil... but we're not NOT saying that either.

An Evening of Dueling Pianos with Rachel Griffin & Leah Finkelstein!

In the tradition of musical collaboration, Rachel & Leah, two local amazingly talented pianists, singer-songwriters, team up for the first time ever right her at Blue !!! This show promises to be unforgettable!

Singer-songwriter Rachel Griffin, based in Portland, Maine, has always been a natural performer. Rachel began performing in the musical theater at age seven, appearing in venues throughout the state. By her senior year in high school, Rachel realized that she felt most comfortable at the piano, and began developing the natural songwriting skills that she had since childhood. Growing up Rachel was influenced by the soulful singing and songwriting of artists like Ben Folds, Billy Joel, Carole King and James Taylor, and she incorporated her passion for their art into her own music.

Local girl Leah Finkelstein was playing the piano long before her feet could touch the pedals, picked up the guitar when she was in high school and while in college, realized she could sing, too. At 19, she was playing nine gigs a week with local favorite Ken Grimsley and at 22, struck out on her own in Boston, created the band "The Help," and played regular shows in and around the city. These days, she is happy to be home and is hoping to re-establish herself here, this time as a solo artist. Watch this site for upcoming shows around Portland, and be sure to check out her original tunes, "One More Drink" and "On and On, Again," as well as her own bluesy versions of "Love Me Like a Man," and "Route 66."

A talented and energetic pianist and singer/songwriter, Stephanie certainly connected with us and left us eager to hear more. Come over to Blue on this night and listen to this exciting and gifted performer.
